Comparative Review: RotF Lockdown vs HftD Axor

Continuing my series of articles on toys and their repaints, today I'm giving my opinion on Revenge of the Fallen Lockdown and Hunt for the Decepticons Axor.

In vehicle mode, both characters have a decidedly 'Mad Max' look to them, with Axor's (right) fairly dull grey colour scheme evoking a futuristic armour-plated battlecar and Lockdown (left) resembling something from your worst nightmare.

I've always liked Animated Lockdown's bounty hunter status, but this 'movieverse' incarnation adapts it to more of a Frankenstein's monster aesthetic with great effect. RotF Lockdown is like a Cybertronian urban legend; the hook-handed death car which stalks the highways at night, looking for young Autobots to rend apart and add to his twisted, asymmetrical design.

Axor, despite his recycled bio, has more the appearance of a warrior; all no-nonsense metal plates and a sodding huge chopper! (That joke's for free). As with Skullgrin, the opening up of the colour palette helps him stand apart from his mould-mate and the new head, which some have described as oversized, looks correct for the body and adds more heft to him.

So once again we have two moulds with enough difference to justfy owning both, but unlike Straxus and Skullgrin, I don't think I have a favourite. One is a spindly, spidery creep and the other is a badass, kicking tailpipes and taking names. If pushed I might choose Lockdown, simply because of his spooky uniqueness, but when it comes to (hello, Thew!) LIGHTPIPING, I think Axor pips Lockdown to the post.

Nice breakdown of the mould Mattersmasher. I never had any interest in acquiring Lockdown, I didn't like his colors or his head sculpt at all from the reviews and pictures I had seen. However, looking at Axor.. I would absolutely find some shelf space for Axor!

Axor also has the engine block painted which looks loads better. I love his segmented 'insect eyes' too. He's a massive step up from his Action Master self who just looked quite dejected.

I love both of these guys. Bought a second Axor to swap engine blocks with Lockdown.

the normal oen on the us ones its just falls off when ever u try to move it

Well Axor is a lot more solid than Lockdown, but I think there's a trick to transforming them. The arm which pops off only does so on mine if you twist it a certain direction. I've got the transformation down to the degree that he never falls to bits.
