Comparative Review: RotF Jolt vs HftD Electrostatic Jolt

Here we have ROTF deluxe class Jolt and his HFTD Electrostatic repaint. The original and the unexpected repaint of the background character we wanted to fall in love with, but never got the chance.

Jolt's alt-mode is the environmentally friendly Chevrolet Volt and it is a sleek vehicle. The ROTF deco is, of course, more movie accurate while the Electrostatic repaint is more akin to the Tuner repaints of Mudflap and Skids. ROTF Jolt has a more consistant paint scheme with lots of lovely blues flowing all throughout him. Electrostatic Jolt replaces the blues with various shades of purple and it isn't as consistant. He has some okay looking lightning bolts spreading across his doors, but his back end is a completely different color from the rest of the alt-mode and I cannot figure out why.

In robot mode, the Tuner comparison becomes more appropriate. Electrostatic Jolt replaces the default gray plastic present on his ROTF predecessor with a pleasant gold that looks much better. His whips have been changed from Allspark blue to lilac and his translucent chest is the same bright shade of purple as his alt-mode's windows, which almost looks pink.

I really dislike the default gray crest on Electrostatic Jolt's head sculpt, it ruins the silver paint apps on his face. Jolt's head sculpt is really lovely, I think it has a lot of character.

I can't justify owning both versions of this mold unless you really like Jolt or the mold itself. If you're only going to get one of them, then make it the original ROTF Jolt. His paint scheme is more consistant and accurate to what little we saw of him in ROTF. If you are interested in owning both, then Electrostatic Jolt is a nice companion piece to the Tuner repaints of Mudflap and Skids as he fits in quite well with their aesthetic.

Damn shame such an interesting looking character didn't get more screen time or an opportunity to return in Dark of the Moon.

I'm still happy with the original, though I might take a saw to that triangular block behind his head; it seems to serve no practical purpose!

Ol' jolt is good enough for me.
...I can't stop myself saying this...mistransformed feet!
sorry.

A lot of people prefer transforming the feet that way, so I expect it was intentional - what say you, Brentosaur?

Yeah not enough difference to own them both, but in my opinion this guy is seriously under rated because his transformation is like eating skittles with ice cream! mmmmmmmm

I like the different ways you can fold up his back-and-shoulder panels.

I have the feet that way because he it makes him sturdier without that tab on the bottom of his right foot making him lean.

I prefer the other way, but the tab does look a bit weird.

Man, the Electrostatic version is actually pretty horrible! Shame Jolt never amounted for much - he was a nominee for best toy in a supporting role.

wow.....Electrostatic is eye-scortchingly G2-esque....

They should have repaint him as a homage to G2 Jolt. He's close, he's got a bit of purple.

I like my original Jolt. MontanaVista is going to be working on his DOTM jolt tonight. Looking forward to seeing that.
